Tips – Getting Started & Next Steps

Guidelines Before Going on a Trip

Sometimes when you are out somewhere enjoying a great vacation, things go wrong in your home. There are many things that can go wrong while you are away like getting your house burglarized, burned down, flooded due to pipe leaks, and others. So, this should encourage you to see to the important things before leaving your home for a vacation.

If you do the things below before you leave for your vacation, you will be assured of a worry free vacation to enjoy.

If you want to have peace of mind during your vacation, see to it that you assign someone to keep an eye on your property while you are away so that if something happens, it can easily be dealt with quickly. People to ask for this favor are your close friends, family members or relatives, or even your neighbor can help you with this. If they are willing to stay in your home, then that would be great, although it is not really necessary. Regular visits to your house will be fine as long as someone is monitoring if something unusual is going on. If you want to give them a nice incentive for their help, then buy something nice for them when you come back home.

Some people would post anything on social media just to let their friends know what is going on in their lives. They are wrong to think that it is only their friends that can see their posts. Advertising your trip abroad in social media is not necessarily a smart thing to do. You are unaware of the people seeing your posts and what their intentions are, and if a criminal happens to live near you, you are tempting him to come and break into your home while you are away.

If you will be away for an extended period of time, do not leave it without security. Check your doors and windows and make sure that they are securely locked. Installing home security systems is another way to make sure that your home is safe while you are away, and don’t forget to set the alarms before you leave.

Even before you go on your trip, make sure you turn off the taps and unplug all your appliances. This will help prevent your home being gutted by fire or flooding. Nothing will go wrong most of the time but there is always a chance that an appliance that is plugged in could catch fire. This isn’t worth the risk.

It has been the habit of most people to close their curtains while they are away. Closing your curtains can be more harmful than safe. If your curtains are closed and burglars happen to be inside, your neighbors will not be able to notice any changes or anything wrong going on inside.
